Lotus Energy is a solar photovoltaic manufacturing and distribution company in Nepal that provides clean, environmentally friendly renewable energy products and services. Since its establishment in 1993, Lotus has grown from two to more than 66 agents with 4 regional offices and 1 branch office around the country. The company installs approximately 2,000 solar home systems each year, as well as larger community systems that power water pumps and vaccine refrigerators. By choosing solar home systems, villagers save an average of $150 per year – money previously spent on kerosene, candles and batteries.
Nepal, like many countries around the world, is experiencing an energy crisis. Residents either receive an inconsistent supply of power from the national electricity grid, or continue to use kerosene and candles for lighting. Kerosene is expensive for remote villagers, provides poor light and causes indoor air pollution.
E+Co’s work with Lotus dates back to 1997. Originally a small local operation, Lotus was unable to secure working capital for materials and goods needed to serve the Nepalese demand effectively. E+Co provided an equity investment and worked with Lotus to meet the growing demand.
