The New York Times “Green” Blog recently referenced the achievements of E+Co’s portfolio company, SELCO – India (Selco Solar), in Jim Witkin’s article, “For the World’s Ills, ‘Trickle Up’ Solutions”. Witkin explains that clean-tech innovations “serving the needs of consumers at the base of the economic pyramid” are proving to be beneficial starting points for product and business model development. He notes that SELCO’s strong focus on providing solar products to low-income consumers has successfully positioned them “to move up the economic pyramid”. He writes that companies in India, including SELCO, “have thrived even in the face of contrary government policies that subsidize kerosene prices and tax solar energy use.” Since 1994, E+Co’s mission and approach have followed this model and we are proud to share the continued recognition of SELCO – India!
