Executive Staff

Christopher Aidun is the Managing Director of E+Co.  Chris joined the organization in October 2011 from his position as a Senior Partner at the international law firm Weil Gotshal & Manges, LLP. During his 30 year career, Chris has practiced in venture capital and private equity, as well as in corporate governance, restructuring and finance. While at Weil, Chris served as E+Co’s pro bono counsel. Chris brings a wealth of business and legal experience to E+Co. At E+Co, Chris oversees E+Co’s portfolio of 135 clean energy enterprises and new investments, as well as its finance team and operations.

Lucy Berkowitz is the Finance Director of E+Co.  Lucy joined E+Co in November 2011 as the chief financial officer of the organization.  Lucy is a UK Chartered Accountant with broad finance experience in the private and nonprofit sectors.  Prior to joining E+Co, Lucy was the Chief Financial Officer of the Near East Foundation.

Dirk Muench is the Investment Director of E+Co.  He oversees E+Co’s portfolio and investment activities. Dirk joined E+Co in May 2010 from JPMorgan Chase.  During his 10 year career in finance, Dirk worked as a credit analyst, investment strategist and derivatives trader. Dirk brings financial acumen, analytical skills and German humor to E+Co.  Dirk's deep passion for reducing energy poverty and fighting climate change has led him to work on various sustainable development projects in the past and study climate change at Columbia University's Earth Institute.

Gina Rodolico is the Innovations Director and a founding member of E+Co. Gina has held numerous positions throughout her 17-year career at E+Co. As the architect of the Monitoring & Evaluation Program, Gina pioneered a tracking and analysis system that allowed E+Co to document the financial, social and environmental impacts of its portfolio companies.  As Innovations Director, Gina is developing an on-line learning platform that will empower clean energy entrepreneurs with business skills and connect them to product suppliers and investors.  The platform is a collaborative effort with partners from the academic, finance, product and technology sectors. Gina holds an MS and an MA from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a Certificate of Finance from New York University.  In the Fall of 2011, Gina was an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University. 

Paul van Aalst is Director of E+Co Europe.  Paul focuses on investor relations and developing investment products to finance E+Co's activities. He leads the development of investment instruments and partnerships in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.  Over the last 15 years Paul has been involved in developing investment vehicles and in advisory work in the field of sustainable investing with international corporations, public organizations and financial institutions.  He has been active in the field of social and environmental investing since 1980 and holds a degree in Business Economics.

Regional Senior Staff

Ricardo de Matheu, General Manager of E+Co Capital, is responsible for overseeing the activites of E+Co's for-profit subsidiary based in Costa Rica.  Before joining E+Co, he was the General Manager of Corporación Financiera Ambiental, a Central American investment fund targeting environmental and sustainable development interests. He also served as investment advisor for the Aureos Capital-managed SME fund, EMERGE. Ricardo has successfully served in CEO and CFO positions in agro-industrial and export enterprises in El Salvador and Guatemala, and as holding company manager of a diversified group of businesses with interests in financial services, industry and real estate.  He has held numerous Board positions, including BANEX in Nicaragua and also served as a faculty member of INCAE, in Costa Rica, where he earned his MBA degree.   He has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical and Management Engineering from the Institute of Technology in Monterrey, Mexico.

Wilhelm Baumgartner
, Regional Manager for E+Co Latin America, oversees the investment and portfolio management of E+Co's Latin American and Caribbean operations.  Wilhelm's responsibilities include developing, planning and implementing partnerships for the extension of clean energy access in Latin America and the Caribbean.  He previously served as Senior Investment Officer for E+Co and brings over 5 years of experience to his position.  Wilhelm holds a Bachelor´s degree in Business Administration from Universidad de Costa Rica and an MBA from the Instituto Centroamericano de Administracion de Empresas.

Peter J. Malika, Director for E+Co East Africa, oversees the investment and portfolio development of E+Co’s East Africa operations, including investment selection and structuring, asset management, financial and investor reporting and implementation and supervision of liquidation strategies.  Peter joins E+Co from Choice Capital Management, a start up private equity and joint venture intermediary business based in East Africa, after working for eight years as Director, Advisory Services for KPMG LLP in Minneapolis.  Before that, he worked with Piper Jaffray Companies in Minneapolis and the Price Waterhouse correspondent firm in Tanzania.  Peter holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix School of Business, a BS in Accounting from Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis and a Diploma in Business Administration from the College of Business Education in Tanzania.  He has a National Booking Certificate (NABOCE) from the Tanzania National Association of Accountants and Auditors.

"JF" John Frederick Thye, Regional Director for E+Co Asia, oversees the investment and portfolio management of E+Co's South East Asia and China operations. JF is responsible for deal and partnership development, financial structuring, asset management, investment and exit strategy design, valuation and implementation, as well as financial, social and environmental reporting. JF is a civil and environmental engineer by training, and used his skills to design and manage commercial marine facility and structures projects in New York City. After starting and directing a marine conservation services company, NIAM Expeditions LLC, that conducted remote scientific surveying and educational outreach for marine conservation hotspots around the globe, JF returned to New York after five years to join Apex Wind Energy. There he led a $40 million brownfield wind farm development, specializing in geo and wind engineering, development financing, project implementation, and proforma analysis. JF has an MBA from the Yale School of Management, a MEM from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, and BS from the Cornell University School of Engineering.
